The improvement of teacher training: a social need in the current Dominican context

El mejoramiento de la formación docente: una necesidad social en el contexto dominicano actual

Abstract

Today's education demands professors and teachers with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and aptitudes that allow them to acquire the cognitive, affective, human and professional skills for quality performance. The objective of this article is referred to reflect on the situation of teacher training in the Dominican Republic. In the methods, the analytical - synthetic is used in the study of its parts to reach the essence of the aspects of improvement of Dominican teacher training, the systematization `for the articulation of the theoretical foundations on the subject. In the results it is argued that the importance of teacher training lies in the problems that this area of ​​education presents in terms of the definition of policies and procedures that are established for the development of training activities and / or professionalization of teachers and teachers, which are still planned within the framework of traditional and decontextualized schemes of reality and the national and international standards that education requires at the moment and that do not allow a development of the teaching profession that responds to modern educational paradigms that characterize today's society. The conclusions identify the essential features of teacher training in the Dominican context and the essential aspects to take into account for its improvement.
