Abstract

This article, entitled "Reading for Pleasure in the Construction of Youth Identity in Cuenca," aimed to analyze in depth the influence of reading for pleasure on the construction of the personal identity of adolescents and young adults through their experiences, perspectives, and meanings. The research was conducted by collecting and analyzing information using the software ATLAS.ti. The methodology was framed within an interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative approach. Consequently, the study emphasized Grounded Theory, employing semi-structured surveys. As a result, conceptions emerged that both support and question reading for pleasure in the formation of the self, but which are nonetheless highly significant. Ultimately, it is understood that reading for pleasure is a practice that adolescents engage in for their own enjoyment and in their daily lives, but it influences their autonomy and worldview. However, it is emphasized that many other factors contribute to the development of identity, ranging from the personal to the social.
