Abstract

The environmental challenges that planet Earth faces today require environmental education in citizens, as it is a sociocultural need, to address environmental problems in the communities where they live and interact. It is therefore coherent to pay attention to socio-environmental management in communities in vulnerable situations to encourage the participation of residents in the care and protection of the environment. The objective of the research was to systematize the theoretical foundations of socio-environmental management, in communities in vulnerable situations, from the university-community-government link. The theoretical systematization of the foundations of socio-environmental management in communities and its importance is presented as a result. The following were used: systematization, documentary analysis, analysis and synthesis, and bibliographic review that made it possible to consult theses, governing documents, books, among others. The theoretical systematization carried out constitutes a foundation since the different positions are argued in relation to public policies, environmental problems and the need for environmental education in communities in vulnerable situations.
Keywords: environmental education, environment, situation of vulnerability, environmental sustainability.
