Juan Montalvo Fiallos: Precursor de la Pedagogía Social en América Latina

El artículo hace referencia a la tradición educativa latinoamericana con el objetivo de exponer cómo las ideas educativas del ecuatoriano Juan Montalvo Fiallos (1832-1889) se pueden considerar antecedentes de la Pedagogía Social en América Latina. Los métodos se corresponden con los de investigación cualitativa de carácter teórico. Se trata de un estudio que parte de un enfoque crítico e interpretativo aplicado a las ideas del gran filósofo, ideólogo y educador. En relación con las técnicas utilizadas ha predominado el estudio de fuentes escritas primarias y secundarias Se han analizado como fuentes primarias las obras de Juan Montalvo y también materiales informativos de la Historia del Ecuador y de América Latina. En el artículo se argumenta el planteamiento hipotético que se defiende; a saber: El intelectual y educador ecuatoriano Juan Montalvo Fiallos fue precursor de la Pedagogía Social en América Latina. Las ideas centrales argumentan cómo en los escritos de Montalvo en el Siglo XIX ya se revela un grupo de indicadores reconocidos hoy día como los más importantes para la Pedagogía Social: Entre ellos se destacan: El empoderamiento, la intencionalidad, la orientación moral de la educación, búsqueda de nuevos modelos de cohesión, bienestar y solidaridad social, soluciones educativas a problemas sociales, respuestas educativas específicas y diferenciadas y compromiso con la justicia social. El artículo constituye también un llamado a estudiar el pasado cultural de los pueblos latinoamericanos como forma de divulgación y reconocimiento de sus valores.

Juan Montalvo Fiallos: Precursor of Social Pedagogy in Latin America
Abstract:
The article makes explicit referent to the Latin-American educational tradition with the purpose of exposing how the educational ideal of the Ecuadorian Juan Montalvo Fiallos (1832-1889) can be considered background of the Social Pedagogy in Latin America. The methods used fit the qualitative research from the theoretic perspective. It involves a study with a critical and interpretative approach applied to the ideas of the grand philosopher, ideologist and educator. Regarding to the techniques used, the study of primary and secondary written sources has prevailed. The publications of Juan Montalvo have been analyzed as primary sources as well as the informative materials of History of Ecuador and Latin America. In the article, the hypothetical approach to defend is the intellectual and Ecuadorian educator Juan Montalvo Fiallos was a pioneer in the Social Pedagogy in Latin America. The central ideas discuss how in the written products of Montalvo in the century XIX a group of indicators is released nowadays acknowledged as the most important for the Social Pedagogy. Among them, the empowerment, intentionality, moral orientation of education, search of new models of cohesion, welfare and social solidarity, educational solutions to social problems, specific and differentiated educational responses and commitment with social justice highlight in the study. The article represents awareness to study the cultural past of Latin-American countries as a way of socialization and acknowledgement of its values
