Educational strategy for professional discourse in stomatology
Estrategia educativa para el discurso profesional en formación inicial del estomatólogo
Abstract
The initial training of Cuban dentists demands the integration of scientific, technical, and ethical knowledge; however, shortcomings persist in the development of professional discourse as a transversal competence. Therefore, this article aims to propose an educational strategy for the development of professional discourse in the initial training of dental students at the "Raúl González Sánchez" Faculty of Stomatology of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. An applied research study was conducted using a mixed-method approach (predominantly qualitative) and a purposive design. Theoretical, empirical, and descriptive statistical methods were employed. The diagnosis revealed that most students lack a clear definition of professional discourse and exhibit difficulties regarding scientific terminology. An educational strategy structured into five stages (diagnosis, planning, execution, evaluation, and feedback) was designed. The educational strategy constitutes a valid approach to contribute to the development of professional discourse by integrating the cognitive, communicative, ethical-identity, and technological-virtual dimensions.
