The Angolan community of Lunda Sur: a proposal for social development
Abstract
The objective of the article is to shown a comprehensive strategy that contributes to the preparation of human capital involved in the sustainable development of the Angolan community of Lunda Sul, which depends on diamond deposits. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, particularly interviews to obtain detailed information and opinions from key actors in mining, and the focus group technique to explore social dynamics, collective perceptions about mining, and sustainable development. The pilot program “Technology with a Community Purpose” is presented, which is the first step of the comprehensive strategy to introduce the basic use of technologies in the mining community to improve education, health, communication, and economic development through a participatory, culturally sensitive, and practical approach.
